Sounds ironic , right?
A unit or equipment meant to cool your home or office is not providing cooling but rather , freezing itself.
Is this possible? You might have seen it happening to your air conditioner or you might have noticed other issues and requested for a service. Only to be told by your serviceman that your air conditioner is frozen
Let’s look at some common reasons why this happens.
1. Check your thermostat
During peak summers, it is possible that you are running your air conditioner for a long time at very low temperatures to beat the heat. Very long and continuous usage at extremely low temperatures could cause your air conditioner to freeze.
A good idea would be to set it at a moderate temperature, say around 21-23 degree celsius. This will also ensure you don’t start feeling very cold after a time. The idea is to stay cool in summers, not be uncomfortable in cold.
1. Dirty or malfunctioning Evaporator Coil
An evaporator coil is the part of an air conditioner that absorbs the heat from the air in your house. Like any other device, it could malfunction sometime, causing your air conditioner to freeze.
Sometimes, it could just be very dirty. With regular usage, a dirty evaporator coil is not uncommon. This also could cause your air conditioner to freeze.
It's best to get a trained service man to take a look at your evaporator coils. Whether its cleaning or replacement, leave it to the trained professionals.
3. Motor Breakdown
There are different types of motors according to the type of air conditioner you own. It could be a Condenser fan motor , Blower Motor, Combustion fan motors or compressor motors. Air Conditioners use motors to move the air around. Whether due to overheating, a lack of proper maintenance, or old age, motors can break down. This could lead to a machinery breakdown or freezing of your unit.
Unfortunately, the only solution is to get a repairman.
4. Leaky Refrigerant
Simply put, without refrigerant, there would be no air conditioning, refrigeration or freezing technology. It readily absorbs heat from the environment and can provide refrigeration or air conditioning when combined with other components such as compressors and evaporators.
A leak in your refrigerant can lead to freezing, no more cool air, hissing sound etc.. The leaks could be caused by many reasons, a broken refrigerant or problem in other fittings.
No matter how big or small the problem is or what the cause of the leak is, it is not something that can be fixed by closing the leak yourself. Refrigerant leak is a complicated problem. Request a service immediately from your authorized service centre.
5. Dirty Air Filter
Air Filters ensure that the air you breathe is clean, free of bacteria , virus, fungi or even dust. Air Filters need to be cleaned regularly.
TCL Smart AI Inverter AC’s come with Vitamin C Filter in all models and additionally with Silver Ion Filter in iECO model. It comes with microdust filters, that prevents dust from collecting in the interior parts of an air conditioner and thus increases the durability of the air conditioner.
Dirty filters or clogged filters could cause freezing and prevent your air conditioner from being efficient.
