If you are considering purchasing an air conditioner to beat the summer heat, chances are, you would have come across a lot of ‘Inverter Air Conditioners’.
It is possible that you may not have heard of this term much before since Inverter AC is a new development in the Air Conditioner industry.
What are Inverter AC’s? What are their benefits? How do they work?
Read on to find out more about Inverter Air Conditioners.
What is an Inverter AC?
An inverter is energy saving technology eliminates wasted operation in air conditioners by efficiently controlling motor speed.
Air conditioners maintain set temperature by cooling when room temperature rises above the set temperature and heating when the room temperature falls below the set temperature. In inverter type air conditioners, temperature is adjusted by changing motor speed without turning the motor ON and OFF.
How is Inverter AC different from Non Inverter AC?
An Air conditioner uses a compressor to manage the cooling operations. So, Inverter Air Conditioners have a mechanism to manage the compressor operations.
In an Inverter AC, rotations start very high, that is very high RPM. So, the power required to start an Inverter AC is high. However, after the air conditioner reaches the set temperature, RPM or rotations per minute automatically comes down, thus optimizing it. In this case, there is no requirement to turn the air conditioning unit ON and OFF. Any Device, when repeatedly turned on and off, consumes more power. The other advantage of not turning your device on and off is that there are minimal or no temperature fluctuations. This means you won’t feel uncomfortable at any point. The higher initial RPM of an Inverter AC which is later optimized, also means that the air conditioner consumes less power and saves on your electricity bill.
In a non- inverter AC, as soon as the air conditioner reaches the temperature set, the compressor is turned off. After sometime, the temperature rises , so the compressor gets turned on again. This on and off of the compressor consumes a lot of energy. Unfortunately, it also means the room is never optimally cooled. Non- Inverter AC’s don't start with higher RPMs, so it also takes longer for the room to cool.
Which type of Air Conditioner is more beneficial?
The initial cost of purchasing an inverter air conditioner is high. But that's also because it comes with a lot of benefits and the long term benefits of an inverter AC outweighs the initial cost of purchasing it. It saves you at least 40% on your monthly electricity bills. It also cools your room faster. Inverter ACs also have a longer life than non inverter ACs.
To summarise, here is a table that will help you make a direct comparison between both type of Air Conditioners.
