The Company’s Largest R&D Center Outside China is Part of the Company’s Efforts to Stimulate Investment and Innovation in Artificial Intelligence
 

TCL, top three global television brand and leading consumer electronics company, has unveiled its new R&D center in Poland, the company’s largest outside China, with a dedicated focus on stimulating innovation in artificial intelligence (AI).
 

The new R&D center, named TCL Research Europe, is part of TCL’s ongoing investment in innovation and technology.
 

The research center will be dedicated to AI-related research based on deep learning, including computer vision, natural language processing and big data analysis, through cooperation with Warsaw University of Technology, University of Warsaw and other universities.
 

The opening ceremony of TCL Research Europe was held in Warsaw, Poland on September 3, 2018 and was attended by Dr Xiaolin Yan, Chief Technology Officer of TCL, Senior Vice President of TCL Corporation and President of TCL Corporate Research , Dr Bartosz Biskupski, General Director of TCL Research Europe, Mr. Xiaofeng Xu, Head of the Department of Economics and Trade of Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, Mr. Tadeusz Kościński, Deputy Minister of Entrepreneurship and Technology and Prof Pawel Strzelecki, Dean of Faculty of Mathematics, Informatics and Mechanics at the University of Warsaw.



“At TCL, AI and big data, semiconductor display technology and smart manufacturing and industrial internet are our top three technological priorities. Our goal is to become one of the most influential, successful research centers in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) within three years,” said Dr. Xiaolin Yan, Chief Technology Officer of TCL, Senior Vice President of TCL Corporation and President of TCL Corporate Research.

 

TCL invested USD 690 million (RMB 4.72 billion) in R&D in 2017, a figure which represents 4.25% of its annual sales revenue, and AI again was a key focus. At present, TCL has 26 R&D centers and over 10 joint laboratories with over 8,000 R&D talents worldwide. As of the first half of 2018, the number of TCL’s PCT (patent cooperation treaty) applications totalled 9,030.
 


In order to promote the long-term development of AI and enhance TCL’s technological capacity, the comopany also collaborated with University of Hong Kong and Chinese University of Hong Kong to stimulate investment in research and development and the identification of new applications and talent cultivation in AI.
 

TCL also partners with leading technology companies Google, Amazon, etc. to provide high quality TV products with intelligent AI functions to consumers, including the newly-launched AI TVs, TCL’s first 8K TV, the TCL 8K QLED TV – FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 Edition, the TCL QLED TV X8, and the company’s new premium product line, the Living Window series, which were unveiled at IFA 2018.
