TCL is transforming the television entertainment experience with AI and new content solutions
The 85-inch QLED flagship XESS Private Theatre X6 features Quantum Dot technology, an elegant design and is the thinnest, local dimming-supported supersized TV in the world
TCL consolidated its market-leading position in FH 2017 with continued, strong global performance
[Berlin, August 31, 2017] TCL, a top three global television manufacturer and QLED technology innovator, today unveiled its new, innovative smart TVs at IFA 2017 in Berlin. The expanded line-up includes the supersized QLEDflagship XESS Private Theatre X6 and the P6 TV from TCL’s Popular series.
The products launched today incorporate the most important, dynamic technologies driving the television industry, such as QLED and AI and, together, continue to propel TCL to the forefront of global smart manufacturing and internet application service provision.
“Today marks another significant milestone for TCL, as we continue to innovate on behalf of our sophisticated global customer base,” said Tomson Li, Chairman, and CEO of TCL Corporation. “TCL’s mission is to empower our consumers globally to create their own inspiring moments and enjoy watching TV with their family and friends. We continue to embrace new technologies in order to deliver a new, superior entertainment experience. Our vision is to be a global leader in smart products and internet services,” Chairman Li added.
New TV products offer an immersive image, quality picture and audio technology and exquisite design
The Private Theatre XESS X6 employs world-leading Quantum Dot display technology and is the company’s latest generation of QLED TV. It accurately represents 1.07 billion colours and 157% (BT.709) range. With a colour volume that is 2.8× higher than OLED (500nits), XESS X6 has a colour purity 58.3% better than traditional TVs. At 60,000 hours, the colour lifespan of the X6 lasts two times longer than a regular OLED TV. The X6 adopts a local dimming solution and its picture hits 1,200 units in peak brightness, contributing to 600 backlit partitions. The contrast ratio (12 million:1) is increased by local dimming – supported by 1,200 LED backlights. The X6 also supports Dolby Vision™ high-dynamic-range (HDR). Leveraging the HDR technology that powers Dolby’s most advanced cinemas around the world, Dolby Vision transforms the TV experience in the home by delivering greater brightness and contrast, as well as a fuller palette of rich colours.
The X6 comes with a Harman Kardon sound system, offering 12-sound channels and 360° surround stereo sound with a 10-inch large woofer. The volume generated by the 7.1.4 sound system reaches 40L. It also supports Dolby Atmos® sound technology and DTS: X 7.1.4 technology. Dolby Atmos delivers an immersive sound experience that directs audio all around you, including overhead, so that viewers feel as if they are in the middle of the story. Designed with rare earth magnets and equipped with silk dome loudspeakers, the X6 creates the most authentic theatre sound achievable at home. In addition, the X6 has a “night mode” and is Bluetooth-enabled, so that those who enjoy their entertainment in the wee hours can do so without disturbing anyone.
The X6’s carefully-selected, glossy walnut and copper finish gives a luxury touch. Inspired by traditional, hand-woven bamboo filaments, TCL created an authentic and unique pattern, laser-engraved for a beautiful double texture on the side-panels of the X6. Additionally, the product provides the home designer with three different options – it can be hung on the wall, or placed on a cabinet or the floor.
At just 24.8mm wide, the XESS Private Theatre X6 is one of the thinnest, supersized TVs and the thinnest of those above 80 inches in size that apply local dimming technology. It will be available in overseas markets in the near future.
The new, mid-range P6 TV elevates the TCL Popular Series’ trademark outstanding design and targets a young, trendy demographic. The P6 has an ultra-slim body piece, metallic casing, elegant flowline and a 4.8mm narrow bezel. It is available in 43”-65” sizes and two colour options, including stylish obsidian black and silver. A distinguishing feature of the P6 is the smart round button – a signature element of Popular Series identity. Besides the switch function, with one long press of the button, the user can also launch an intuitive navigation function.
Equipped with studio-level Dolby 5.1 surround sound, the P6 delivers HDR picture quality via 4K UHD display technology. With micro-dimming technology, the P6 achieves great contrast by analyzing the video content in hundreds of separate zones and adjusting the brightness and darkness of each separately. Importantly, the P6’s Sports Mode offers fans a more engaging experience, thanks to the optimization of live-action images and sound.
The P6 offers a smart experience, coming fully-loaded with content from Netflix, YouTube and GoLive 3.0, as well as the TCL TV+ APP Store. The P6 will be launched in overseas markets from Q4 2017, with Asia Pacific countries taking delivery first.

Ambitious AI and new content solutions
The arrival of AI in the home heralds the arrival of a vastly superior entertainment experience. TCL delivers the latest AI and content solutions via truly innovative, beautifully-designed hardware.
TCL’s AI TV roadmap offers five key solutions, including:
More user-friendly interaction: voice, image and movement recognition;
Content throughway: the user can see what they want in the shortest time possible;
More accurate recommendations: TCL AI TV identifies consumer needs via deep learning and tailors personalized content for them.
Better connectivity: AI TV synchronizes data between different devices, creating a smart ecosystem. For example, your AI TV can become your personal health assistant. Just link your wearable device to the AI TV and synchronize your health data with the apps;
Big data: to ensure the provision of high quality, comprehensive big data content, TCL collaborates with Google, Baidu, and other industry leaders.
Aimed at stimulating investment and the identification of new applications and talent cultivation in AI, TCL recently confirmed a new collaboration with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK).
Additionally, TCL joined forces with internet giant Tencent in 2017, to further develop its smart TV business and, in particular, the delivery of rich content solutions. On 5 July 2017, FFalcon Technology Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of TCL Multimedia, together with Tencent Digital (Shenzhen) Company Limited, formed a strategic cooperation to provide funding support for the development of the smart TV business. In overseas markets, TCL cooperates with Netflix, Google, YouTube, Roku.
