Bringing the cinema home

When we go to the movies, we don’t sit in the back. We like to pick a seat generally in the middle of the theater. This gives us that “sweet spot” where the field of view is at least around 36°. That’s where you get that feeling of being immersed in the action, not just watching it.

The same formula applies to getting the right sized TV in your living room. This means you can sit about 10’ away from one of our amazing 98" TVs and it will be like you’re in the huddle or dragging that second toe to make an inbound catch!

More screen. Less frame.

Upgrading to a big screen TV is easier than you might think.  If you are replacing an old 65" TV, for example, your new 98" will have more than 125% more viewing area, yet amazingly, it’s less than 24" wider, only 5" taller, it’s thinner, and weighs roughly about the same.

Getting a great seat always puts you in the action! So, here’s to turning your living room into an immersive, fan-friendly venue.

Buying a big screen TV?

What you need to know about buying a big screen TV including the benefits of owning one, factors to consider when buying, and how to set up and care for your new TV, and more.

  • What is a big screen TV?

A big screen TV is a television with a screen size of 65 inches or larger. These TVs are designed to provide a more immersive viewing experience, making them ideal for watching movies, live sports, and playing video games.

  • How big is a big screen TV?

TCL's big screen TVs start at 65 inches and can go up to 98 inches. The size of the TV is measured diagonally from corner to corner. So, a 65-inch TV means that the screen measures 55 inches diagonally. It's important to note that the size of the TV doesn't include the bezel (or frame), so the actual size of the TV will be a bit larger than the screen size.

  • What are the benefits of buying a big screen TV?

Big screen TVs have become increasingly popular due to advancing technology, more accessible price points, and more immersive viewing experiences compared to smaller screen sizes. All TCL big screen TVs are smart TVs, allowing you to stream content directly from the internet, use popular streaming apps and services, and even connect to other smart devices in your home.

Other benefits to going big include:

    • Enhanced viewing experience: With a larger screen, you can enjoy a more immersive viewing experience, making you feel like you are part of the action.
    • Better picture quality: TCL big screen TVs come with advanced technologies such as 4K resolution, High Dynamic Range (HDR), and wide color gamut powered by QLED, to name a few. Together these features lend sharper and more vibrant images.
    • Ideal for large spaces: If you have a spacious living room, gaming room, or entertainment area, a big screen TV can fill the space and provide a cinematic feel.
    • Versatility: Big screen TVs are not just limited to watching blockbuster movies. They can also be used for streaming TV shows, gaming, and even as a computer monitor.
    • Improved sound quality: In addition to better picture quality, many big screen TVs also come with DTS Virtual:X and Dolby Atmos technology, providing a 3D audio performance. TCL’s 98” TVs even feature built-in subwoofers for deep bass. However, for the best sound quality, you may still want to consider adding a separate sound bar.
  • What factors should I consider when buying a big screen TV?

Some of the main critera to consider before choosing a big screen TV include:

    • Screen size: TCL big screen TVs come in various sizes, ranging from 65 inches to 98 inches. When choosing a size, consider the size of your room and the viewing distance. As a general rule, the TV should be around 1.2x the distance from where you will be sitting. For example, if you are sitting 8.5 feet away from the TV, an 85 inch screen would be ideal.
    • Viewing distance: In addition to the size of the room, you should also consider the viewing distance. In other words, the distance between where you will be sitting and the TV. As a general rule, the ideal viewing distance is about 1.2x the diagonal size of the TV. So, for a 65-inch TV, the ideal viewing distance would be around 6.5 feet.
    • Resolution: Resolution refers to the number of pixels on the screen, and it has a significant impact on the picture quality. The most common resolution for big screen TVs is 4K. 4K resolution, also known as Ultra HD, has four times the number of pixels as a Full HD TV, providing a sharper and more detailed image.
    • HDR: High Dynamic Range (HDR) is a must for a cinematic experience. HDR enhances the color and contrast of the image, making it more vibrant and lifelike. There are several types of HDR, including HDR10, HDR10+, and Dolby Vision. Most TCL big screen TVs support the most popular HDR formats.
    • Display type: There are three main display technologies used in big screen TCL TVs: LED, QLED, Min-LED.
      • LED TVs use an LCD panel with LED backlighting to produce images. They are the most common and affordable type of big screen TV.
      • QLED TVs use quantum dots to enhance the color and brightness of the display. They are a more affordable alternative to OLED TVs but do not offer the same level of picture quality.
      • Mini-LED TVs combine the brightness of LED TVs with the precision contrast of high-zone local dimming.
  • What is the difference between a big screen TV and a projector?

A big screen TV and a projector both offer a large viewing experience, but they have some significant differences. Here are a few key differences to consider:

    • Picture: Big screen TVs generally offer better picture quality, with higher resolutions and advanced technologies such as HDR and QLED. Projectors, on the other hand, may not provide the same level of picture quality, especially in well-lit rooms.
    • Placement: Big screen TVs can be mounted on a wall or placed on a stand, while projectors require a dedicated space and a screen to project the image onto.
    • Price: Projectors tend to be more expensive than big screen TVs, especially when you factor in the cost of a screen and installation.
  • Can I mount a big screen TV on the wall?

Yes! TCL big screen TVs come with VESA mounting holes, allowing you to mount them on the wall. However, it is important to make sure you have help and have the necessary tools and expertise to install it safely.

If you’re at all unsure about tackling the mounting yourself, we encourage you to consult a professional. Be sure to review the documentation that comes with the sound bar and TV mount to ensure compatibility.
